Overview
Jamiatul Khair Al Islamia Sylhet is an institute of advanced Islamic studies established to provide higher, research-oriented learning for graduates of the traditional madrasa curriculum. Located at Chowdhurypara, Pirerbazar, Sylhet, the institute was founded to address the need for structured postgraduate study in the Islamic sciences, particularly in a region where such opportunities have historically been limited.
Founding and Establishment
The institute formally began on 21 Rajab 1435 AH / 21 May 2014 CE following a public declaration made in a gathering of scholars and respected community members in Sylhet. Its foundation was shaped by a long-recognised need for an effective centre of higher Islamic study in the region, especially for graduates seeking specialisation after Dawrah Hadith. After operating for several years from rented premises, the institute moved to its own campus during the 2022–23 academic year.
Purpose
Jamiatul Khair Al Islamia Sylhet was established to extend Islamic learning beyond the general Alimiyyah stage and to provide a more organised pathway into higher study, specialist training, and scholarly development. The institute’s academic aim is not only to preserve the inherited Islamic sciences, but also to prepare students with the depth, discipline, and intellectual training required to serve in teaching, research, ifta, da‘wah, and related scholarly fields.
Academic Character
The institute is built around structured higher study. Its academic model includes specialist departments, regular teaching, supervision by qualified scholars, examinations and assessment, language development, and access to library and digital resources. The prospectus highlights a number of academic features, including guest instruction by recognised muftis and scholars, fatwa review through external scholarly correspondence, semester-based assessment, a language forum for Bangla, Arabic, English, and Urdu, and electronic library facilities.
